Cell C and Canva partnership

Cell C has partnered with visual communication platform Canva to expand access to digital design and content creation tools for South Africans. The initiative combines mobile connectivity with creative technology to support individuals, entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Under the partnership, Cell C customers who purchase a 5GB Anytime Data Bundle between August 11 and October 31, 2026, will receive three months of Canva Pro at no additional cost. The subscription includes premium design and video-editing tools, templates, content and AI-powered features.

Turning Connectivity Into Creative Opportunities

The partnership is designed to help customers use digital tools for practical and economic activities. These include creating CVs and portfolios, building personal brands, producing digital content, promoting businesses and developing new ideas.

Canva Pro also provides access to premium templates and content, local languages and AI-powered features through Canva’s Magic Studio.

The initiative comes as Canva continues to deepen its presence in South Africa. The company established a local team and Johannesburg office in 2025, while expanding localised content and language support. Canva has also been developing education and creator programmes in the country.

Cell C Expands Its Digital Inclusion Efforts

For Cell C, the partnership forms part of a wider effort to connect South Africans to opportunities in the digital economy.

The telecommunications company has previously highlighted the importance of affordable digital access for disadvantaged communities and entrepreneurial development. Its programmes have included initiatives focused on education, youth development and digital literacy.

The approach reflects a broader shift among telecommunications companies from providing connectivity alone to offering services that help customers make productive use of the internet.

Workshops and Community Activations Planned

The collaboration will extend beyond the initial three-month Canva Pro offer.

Cell C and Canva plan to organise community activations and design-focused workshops throughout 2026. These activities are expected to give users practical exposure to digital design and content creation.

The companies also intend to connect the initiative with broader efforts to prepare young South Africans for professional opportunities. Cell C’s Take a Child to Work programme, for example, aims to expose 100,000 children to workplaces by 2027, with more than 180 companies already participating.

The Canva partnership therefore positions digital creativity as part of a wider skills-development agenda, particularly for young people, entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Building Access to the Digital Economy

The collaboration between Cell C and Canva highlights the growing importance of combining connectivity with practical digital skills.

While mobile data gives people access to online services, creative platforms can help users turn that access into tangible outputs such as business marketing materials, professional portfolios, educational resources and social media content.

For South African entrepreneurs and creators, the partnership could lower the cost of accessing professional design tools while allowing more users to develop skills that can support participation in the digital economy.
