The first and most critical step is the decentralisation and stabilisation of the power sector. Without reliable and affordable electricity, large-scale manufacturing is impossible. Government and private sector partnerships must prioritise investments in diverse energy sources, specifically targeted at powering industrial hubs.
The second step involves improving access to long-term, affordable financing for local manufacturers. The current high interest rates deter capital-intensive industrial projects. Establishing specialised industrial development banks that offer single-digit interest rates to manufacturing and hardware technology firms would provide the necessary capital to build local factories and purchase advanced machinery.
The third step is the creation of integrated technology and manufacturing zones. These special economic zones should be equipped with modern infrastructure, high-speed internet, and tax incentives designed to attract both software developers and hardware manufacturers. By placing digital innovators alongside industrial producers, the country can foster collaboration that leads to the development of locally manufactured, technology-enabled products.
Finally, educational programmes must be updated to align with modern industrial needs.
