OpenAI has added a feature to ChatGPT that turns a typed request into a game you can play without leaving the conversation. There is no code to copy, no app to install and no separate development tool to set up.
What OpenAI has launched
The feature is part of GPT-6 with Intelligent UI, which OpenAI introduced on October 7, 2026. Instead of replying only with text, ChatGPT can now mix words, visuals and interactive elements, depending on what you ask. OpenAI’s examples include side-by-side comparisons, diagrams, calculators, bill splitters and games. The model can also pick the most suitable format on its own and begin answering while it is still thinking. The rollout was staged across plans over the first days after launch.
How it works in practice
You describe the game you want in plain language. Early hands-on tests this week used prompts asking for playable versions of Snake, Pong, Tetris and Space Invaders, plus a Pac-Man style maze game. ChatGPT produced working versions that could be played in the chat window itself, and testers found them fun for a few rounds.
It is not flawless. In at least one test, ChatGPT first returned raw code instead of a playable game. Asking again and stating clearly that the game should run inside the conversation fixed the problem. If your first attempt gives you code, repeat the request with that instruction.
Customisation is the real draw
Recreating arcade classics is a neat demonstration, but the bigger appeal is how easily a game can be changed. In one test, ChatGPT named its maze game “Maze Muncher” and then reworked it with a 1980s arcade look and a Halloween theme. Users can also adjust the graphics, the difficulty and how the game progresses, simply by asking for changes in the next message.
That opens the door beyond nostalgia. Teachers could request quiz games for a lesson. Parents could ask for a simple puzzle for children. Small businesses could build a quick promotional game to share with customers. All of it starts with a single sentence of instruction.
What this means for everyday users
Interactive tools used to need a developer, a code editor and a place to host the result. Intelligent UI moves that whole process into a chat box, which lowers the barrier for anyone curious about building something playable. For people with limited data or storage, the fact that nothing needs to be downloaded is a practical advantage too.
There are limits. These are simple games, closer to a quick break than a full console experience. Results can vary from one prompt to the next, and plan availability may differ by region and subscription.
Where to start
Open ChatGPT, describe the game you want and add that it must be playable directly in the conversation. Then ask for tweaks until it feels right. For many users, it will be the first time a chatbot has handed them something to play rather than something to read.
