MultiChoice Overhauls DStv and GOtv Packages With Eight New Plans From November 5

In this story

MultiChoice Nigeria will replace its DStv and GOtv subscription lineup with eight new packages from 5 November 2026. The company says the aim is to cut the confusion that came with too many options and give subscribers better value.

What changes for subscribers

DStv will now have four packages: Starter, Select, Sports and Premium. The monthly prices are ₦6,000 for Starter, ₦11,000 for Select, ₦21,000 for Sports and ₦44,500 for Premium.

Starter is the entry point and is the cheapest way into the DStv ecosystem. Sports is the tier for football and other live action. Premium stays at the top and carries the widest mix of sports, movies, documentaries and international entertainment.

GOtv will also have four tiers: Easy, Starter, Select and Sports. Easy becomes the entry-level plan.

Why MultiChoice is doing this

The company admits the old structure had grown complicated. With so many packages, subscribers struggled to work out which one suited them. MultiChoice says the new lineup rests on three priorities: simplicity, better value for money and more choice.

Senior Vice President Tope Oshikoya described the move as a completely new set of packages for customers. MultiChoice Nigeria’s chief executive, Kemi Omotosho, said the company wants to make choosing a plan easier.

The bigger picture

This is not only a Nigerian change. MultiChoice is now owned by the French group Canal+, and the restructure follows a similar one in South Africa in September. The new lineup is rolling out in other African markets from the same date. In Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe, the changes also come with a reduced number of packages.

The timing reflects pressure on the whole pay-TV industry. Households are weighing subscriptions against streaming platforms, and affordability is a major concern. MultiChoice also cut decoder prices earlier in the year, which suggests it is trying to win back subscribers who dropped off.

What subscribers should do?

MultiChoice says affected customers do not need to take action, and packages should update automatically when the new lineup starts. Even so, check which new tier your current package maps to. A change in name can also mean a change in price or channels.

Subscribers who mainly watch football should compare Select and Sports carefully, since the ₦10,000 gap between them is the biggest jump below the top tier.
