MTN MoMo empowers south sudanese entrepreneurs
The digital economy in South Sudan has achieved a significant milestone as MTN MoMo, in strategic partnership with Inkomoko, successfully graduated 1,225 local entrepreneurs. This comprehensive programme is designed to strengthen digital financial literacy and accelerate the adoption of mobile money across small businesses. By equipping these business owners with vital digital finance skills, MTN MoMo is actively expanding participation in the formal economy and driving sustainable business growth.

Strengthening Financial Literacy for Business Expansion

Operating a successful small business in a rapidly evolving digital landscape requires more than just capital. It requires practical and accessible financial tools. Over the past year, this joint initiative delivered exactly that. Inkomoko provided the entrepreneurs with essential business guidance and seed funding, while MTN MoMo led intensive and practical training on digital financial literacy.
Participating entrepreneurs were trained to seamlessly integrate mobile money into their daily operations. They learnt how to accept digital payments securely, sell airtime and provide essential cash-in services to their communities. These capabilities are critical for improving cash flow management and opening new avenues for operational expansion. By mastering these digital financial services, the graduates are now better positioned to scale their enterprises and serve a broader customer base.

Strategic Partnerships Driving Economic Development

The graduation ceremony in South Sudan highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in building a resilient digital ecosystem. The event brought together key representatives from major development organisations, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the National Chamber of Commerce, the Mastercard Foundation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
Speakers at the ceremony commended the resilience and dedication of the graduating entrepreneurs. They also emphasised the critical role that partnerships between the private sector and development organisations play in advancing financial inclusion. In acknowledgement of its outstanding contribution to entrepreneurship and financial empowerment, MTN Fintech was presented with an Award of Recognition during the event.

A Catalyst for the Digital Economy

This initiative underscores the transformative power of digital financial services in emerging markets. By providing small businesses with the knowledge and tools to navigate digital finance, MTN MoMo is fostering a more inclusive and robust economy in South Sudan. As these 1,225 entrepreneurs apply their new skills, they will undoubtedly inspire further digital adoption and economic resilience within their communities.
