BuuPass and Flexpay Partner to Simplify Holiday Travel for Kenyans

Kenyan startups BuuPass, a digital ticketing platform, and Flexpay, a goal-based savings platform, have teamed up to make holiday travel more affordable and stress-free. The partnership aims to help Kenyans plan their journeys while managing financial constraints effectively.

What is BuuPass?

Founded in 2016 by Sonia Kabra and Wyclife Omondi, BuuPass operates as a B2B2C mobility marketplace. It allows users to search, compare, and book tickets for buses, trains, and flights via its website, mobile app, or even USSD. The platform also supports transport operators through a SaaS system, enabling them to handle ticket inventory, manage bookings, and streamline operations efficiently.

Over the years, BuuPass has made a significant impact:

  • Sold over 16 million tickets
  • Generated more than $100 million in gross merchandise value.
  • Participated in prestigious programs like Google for Startups Accelerator Africa and received funding from the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund.
  • Acquired a competing ticketing service, QuickPass, earlier this year.

What is Flexpay?

Flexpay, on the other hand, is a payment gateway platform designed to promote interest-free savings. It allows customers to break down payments for high-value goods and services into manageable installments. The platform enables merchants to offer flexible payment plans, giving customers the freedom to decide when and how to pay.

How the Partnership Works

The collaboration between BuuPass and Flexpay brings a unique solution to Kenyan travelers. Using this system, individuals and families can save for trips without financial stress by paying in installments.

Here’s how it works:

1. Choose a Travel Date: Customers can plan their journeys in advance and book tickets early.

2. Make a Deposit: A small initial payment secures the booking.

3. Pay in Installments: The remaining balance is spread over 4-12 weeks in manageable, interest-free payments, which can be made weekly or monthly.

This approach offers several advantages:

  • Travelers lock in prices early, avoiding the high costs of last-minute bookings.
  • Families and large groups can plan trips without significant financial strain.
  • Flexibility ensures holiday travel is accessible even during peak seasons.

Why This Partnership Matters

Travel during the holidays can be overwhelming, both logistically and financially. The partnership aims to reduce this burden while promoting inclusivity.

Sonia Kabra, co-founder of BuuPass, explained,

By partnering with Flexpay, we’re giving travelers the flexibility to budget for their trips in advance. This initiative aligns with our mission to make travel accessible to everyone, providing a solution that meets customers where they are financially.

Similarly, Flexpay’s CEO and Founder, Richard Machomba, added,

Flexpay’s mission is to empower individuals by providing accessible financial solutions that make it easier for them to achieve their financial goals. By partnering with BuuPass, we’re making travel more accessible and stress-free for Kenyans, especially during the holiday season when expenses can be overwhelming.

A Stress-Free Future for Holiday Travel

This collaboration highlights how innovation can address real-world challenges. BuuPass and Flexpay are not just making travel affordable, they are fostering financial inclusion, and enabling installment-based payments for tickets.

For Kenyan families looking to travel during the festive season, this partnership offers a solution that balances convenience and affordability, ensuring that more people can enjoy stress-free holiday trips without breaking the bank.
