Airtel Money, the mobile money arm of Airtel Africa, began conditional trading on the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026. The stock is listed under the ticker AMC. This is the first stage of its listing, not the full debut.
Where the IPO stands today
Only investors who received shares in the offer can trade at this stage. If admission does not go ahead, all of these trades are cancelled. Full admission to the Official List and unconditional dealing, open to the wider market, is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14. The company says the timetable is indicative and could still change.
Price, size and valuation
The offer price was fixed at £1.96 per share, valuing the company at about £5.3 billion, or roughly $7 billion. That is below the $8 billion to $9 billion range that circulated in press reports before the formal announcement.
Existing shareholders sold 270 million shares, worth about £529 million. A further 27 million shares can be sold through an over-allotment option, which would lift the total to about £582 million. Total issued share capital after admission will be 2.7 billion shares.
No fresh capital for the business
Every share in the offer is being sold by existing holders. Airtel Money is not issuing new shares and receives no proceeds. Airtel Africa, which owns the majority of the business, is not selling in the main offer. It says it intends to remain a long-term strategic shareholder.
How the shares have traded so far
The opening was muted. Shares touched £2 in early dealing, then eased to about £1.94 within the first hour, slightly under the offer price. That is a snapshot of the first hour only. I found no confirmed closing price for the day. Conditional trading also involves a limited pool of buyers and sellers, so it is an imperfect guide to how the stock will behave once the market opens to everyone on October 14.
What to watch next
Attention now shifts to October 14 and the trading that follows. The over-allotment option can be exercised for 30 days after conditional dealing began, and price stabilisation may take place in that window. The company has also been expected to qualify for inclusion in FTSE UK indexes, though that has not been confirmed.
