African Startup Ecosystem

African Startups Can Now Pitch to 30 Plus Investors at SiGMA Africa 2027

In this story

Early-stage African startups have until January 6, 2027 to apply for the SiGMA Africa Startup Pitch, a competition that puts founders in front of more than 30 venture capital investors in Cape Town. Applying is free.

What the Competition Offers

The pitch is part of the SiGMA Africa Summit, running in Cape Town from February 15 to 17, 2027. The live competition takes place on February 17 at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World. Organisers say more than 100 startups will be selected for the event’s Startup Village, where founders can exhibit and network. Only six of them will reach the live stage. Being accepted into the Village does not guarantee a place in the final pitch.

Who Should Apply

SiGMA is looking for early-stage companies, typically between seed and Series A, that have raised no more than €3 million in total funding. Founders must also be able to attend the event in person if chosen. The industry focus is narrower than many founders may expect. The organisers want products and services for iGaming, sports betting, casino, esports, affiliate marketing, artificial intelligence, fintech, blockchain and the wider gaming technology sector. One of the judging criteria is industry relevance, meaning how clearly a solution serves or applies to the gaming ecosystem. A fintech or payments startup will need to show that link, rather than assume it.

Key Dates Founders Should Note

Applications close on January 6, 2027. One report puts the shortlist announcement on January 22 and the pitch deck deadline on February 3, while others say only that the shortlist comes later in January. Finalists will deliver a short live pitch followed by a question session with judges, and the judges’ scores decide the winner on stage. Applicants should treat the dates as provisional until they are confirmed in the official application portal.

Why It Matters for African Founders

Access to investors remains one of the hardest parts of building a startup on the continent. A pitch stage with more than 30 VCs in the room gives early-stage teams a chance to be seen without paying an application fee. The summit has grown since its first Africa edition in Nairobi in 2023 and is expected to host about 3,000 delegates in Cape Town. Attendance costs such as travel and accommodation are likely to fall on founders, so teams outside South Africa should budget for them before applying.

How to Apply

Founders can apply through the official SiGMA Africa pitch page. Prepare a clear description of the product, evidence of traction and your funding history, since the €3 million funding limit is a firm eligibility check.
