Cyble and BOCRA Sign Cybersecurity Cooperation Deal

Botswana’s communications regulator has signed a cybersecurity agreement with Cyble Inc to improve protection across the country’s digital infrastructure. Both organisations confirmed the Memorandum of Understanding in Cyble’s announcement, which outlines plans for joint work on threat monitoring, intelligence access and incident response.

Threat Intelligence Access for National Monitoring

The agreement gives BOCRA access to Cyble’s threat intelligence platform. The system scans the open, deep and dark web in real time. It tracks malicious activity and highlights patterns that could signal risk. This visibility supports a more proactive defence of government services and critical networks.

Botswana has been modernising its digital systems. Telecom networks, public sector applications and cloud based services have expanded. As a result, the risk of disruptions and data exposure has increased. The MoU aims to improve national readiness and speed up how quickly regulators can detect and respond to threats.

Capacity Building for Local Cyber Teams

The partnership covers skills and knowledge as well. Cyble will run training programmes and workshops for local cybersecurity teams. This helps build national talent at a time when more banks, retailers, government offices and service providers rely on digital platforms.

Implications for Regional Cooperation

Botswana participates in several cross border digital initiatives in Southern Africa. Stronger internal defences can support the country’s role in shared infrastructure projects and data exchange systems. A clearer view of threat trends can also support future regulatory decisions for telecom operators, internet providers and digital platforms.

What Happens Next

The next steps may include adding Cyble’s tools to BOCRA’s monitoring processes and aligning them with national incident reporting rules. BOCRA is expected to share further details as it explains how the MoU fits into its long term cybersecurity plans.
