Google Invites South African Startups to Join 2025 Accelerator Initiative

Google has announced the opening of applications for the 2025 cohort of its Google for Startups Accelerator: Africa program, specifically targeting South African startups utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. This three-month hybrid accelerator is designed to support Seed to Series A technology startups, offering a comprehensive suite of resources to foster growth and innovation.

Program Highlights

The accelerator program provides selected startups with:

  • Equity-free support: Enabling startups to retain full ownership while benefiting from the program’s resources.
  • Up to $350,000 in Google Cloud credits: Facilitating access to Google’s robust cloud infrastructure to scale operations.
  • Tailored mentorship: Guidance from Google engineers and industry experts to address specific technical challenges.
  • Technical training and strategic guidance: Assistance in refining products and business strategies.
  • Networking opportunities: Connections with investors, partners, and peers across Africa and beyond.

Eligibility Criteria

Startups interested in applying should meet the following criteria:

  • Be headquartered in South Africa.
  • Have at least one African founder.
  • Offer a live product already in the market.
  • Demonstrate clear product-market fit and potential to scale.
  • Have an AI-first approach or are meaningfully integrating AI into their operations.
  • Be open to leveraging Google products to enhance their solutions.

Application Timeline

  • Applications Open: August 18, 2025
  • Applications Close: September 10, 2025
  • Program Kick-off: September 29, 2025
  • Graduation and Demo Day: December 2025

This initiative underscores Google’s commitment to nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa, particularly in South Africa, by providing startups with the tools and support needed to scale and succeed in the global market.
