The Accelerate Africa Demo Day, spearheaded by visionary entrepreneur Iyin Aboyeji and his Accelerate Africa team, took place in Nairobi, showcasing a stellar lineup of 10 groundbreaking startups. This third edition of the highly anticipated event reaffirmed why Nairobi is cementing its place as a tech innovation powerhouse on the African continent. From AI-driven solutions to platforms revolutionizing commerce and compliance, these startups are tackling Africa’s most pressing challenges with creativity and impact.

The Startups That Shone Bright at Demo Day

Chatsasa: Leveraging AI to help businesses engage seamlessly with customers across multiple messaging and social media platforms via a unified system.

IWOMI: Revolutionizing banking compliance by automating the monitoring and delivery of over 150 compliance reports required monthly by central banks, reducing reporting times from three weeks to two days.

Liquify: Empowering African SME exporters through an invoice financing marketplace, enabling them to sell unpaid dollar invoices to global investors at a discount.

MasteryHive: Building multi-modal AI agents to help insurance claim officers process claims in just two hours, down from 10 weeks, while reducing fraud by 50%.

REasy: Assisting African traders in avoiding fraud and lowering costs by verifying genuine Chinese suppliers and facilitating direct payments and freight forwarding.

Eldo: Providing smart meter monitoring software to large distributed businesses like MTN, PicknPay, and Nedbank to manage and save on electricity consumption.

TRÍ: Supporting e-mobility operators with tailored solutions for vehicles, parts, and infrastructure to build a robust e-mobility ecosystem across Africa.

UltraTeb: A B2B e-commerce platform connecting hospitals to banks to finance affordable healthcare supplies directly from manufacturers, cutting costs significantly.

Waya: Simplifying financial inclusion for new immigrants in the U.S., offering seamless access to banking and financial services.

Stealth Fintech Startup: Poised to tackle some of Africa’s most pressing financial challenges, this stealth-mode startup is likely addressing critical issues like seamless cross-border payments or innovative financial inclusion tools. With Africa’s fintech landscape booming, I wonder which of the problems this mysterious startup is addressing.

Why Nairobi?

In his reflections, Iyin Aboyeji acknowledged his initial reservations about moving the event from Lagos to Nairobi. However, he expressed his renewed admiration for the city’s vibrant tech ecosystem. According to him, Nairobi boasts an impressive combination of innovation infrastructure—world-class co-working spaces, affordable and skilled talent, and a community of forward-thinking founders and VCs. It’s no wonder that Nairobi is rapidly emerging as one of Africa’s innovation capitals.

“The spirit of community I felt during this event reminded me of the golden days of iHub,” Aboyeji shared. “There’s an energy here that’s undeniably powerful, and it’s clear why Nairobi continues to attract global attention as an innovation hub.”

A Platform for Collaboration and Growth

The Demo Day wasn’t just about startups pitching ideas—it was a platform for fostering collaboration between investors, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders committed to driving Africa’s growth. The event was hosted at Ikigai Nairobi and Shamba Events, spaces that perfectly complemented the spirit of innovation and community.

Looking Ahead

The Accelerate Africa Demo Day highlighted the immense potential of the continent’s innovation ecosystem. With startups addressing critical challenges and building scalable solutions, events like these demonstrate the ability of African entrepreneurs to contribute to global progress. The platform provided an opportunity for collaboration between investors and innovators, reinforcing the importance of nurturing talent and fostering growth in key tech hubs like Nairobi and beyond. As these initiatives continue to gain momentum, they underscore Africa’s growing role in shaping the future of innovation.
