Ezra Olubi Paystack cofounder terminated following internal investigation

Over the past few weeks, we have heard a lot of news revolving around one of the brightest tech minds in Nigeria, Ezra Olubi, the cofounder and CTO of Paystack.

This weekend, the situation reached a critical turning point as Ezra announced that his employment with the company had been terminated. This development follows a tense period for the company, which began earlier this month when Paystack placed him on indefinite suspension.

In a personal statement released on his blog titled Terminated, Ezra revealed that he was informed of the decision on Saturday, November 22, 2025. His departure is not just a resignation but a dismissal that he claims violated the company’s internal procedures.

Ezra stated that the decision to fire him was taken before the independent investigation into the allegations of misconduct had concluded. He expressed deep frustration with the process, noting that he was not given a hearing, a meeting, or any opportunity to respond to the issues raised against him. He argues this is a clear contravention of the terms of his suspension and Paystack’s internal policies.

The controversy centers on serious allegations involving a subordinate and a series of resurfaced tweets from over a decade ago. Paystack had initially stated that they were launching a formal investigation to ensure due process and promised to remain silent until that investigation was complete.

However, Ezra’s firing before the conclusion of that report suggests a shift in the board’s approach. In his statement, Ezra defended his character, asserting that the posts circulating online do not reflect his conduct or the way he has lived his life. He emphasized that he has always tried to conduct himself with respect for everyone’s dignity and safety.

As of now, Paystack has not released an official counterstatement regarding the termination timeline. Ezra has indicated that his legal team is reviewing the process and will take appropriate steps, signaling that this may be the beginning of a complex legal battle.
