GITEX Nigeria 2025: Africa’s Biggest Tech Gathering Debuts in Lagos and Abuja

The world’s most influential tech exhibition is coming to Nigeria. For the first time in its 45-year history, GITEX Global expands beyond Dubai to establish a major presence in West Africa through GITEX Nigeria 2025.

From September 1-4, 2025, GITEX will land in both Abuja and Lagos for the very first time, with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is a powerful moment for Nigeria as it steps higher onto the global stage as Africa’s tech powerhouse.

Government Leadership Drives National Tech Strategy

Nigeria’s tech transformation gets direct government backing through high-level participation. Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani headlines the government speakers, bringing his startup founder background to national policy discussions.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu joins the leadership forum, representing the state that hosts Africa’s largest tech startup concentration. With over 2,000 startups based in Lagos alone, his participation underscores local government commitment to tech ecosystem growth.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi brings federal digital strategy expertise to the conversations. His agency oversees Nigeria’s national technology development, making his participation crucial for policy alignment with private sector needs.

AI Summit Positions Nigeria for Global Competition

The Government Leadership & AI Summit on September 1 in Abuja focuses specifically on artificial intelligence adoption in public services. This dedicated AI track addresses Nigeria’s need to compete globally in emerging technology sectors.

Dr. Bosun Tijani emphasized the strategic importance: “AI is going to change the narratives in all areas of human endeavors… Nigeria should be part of that global superpower in the development and regulations of AI.”

NVIDIA’s Fatima Tambajang leads the AI discussions as Head of Developer Relations for Africa and the Middle East. Her participation connects Nigerian developers directly to the world’s leading AI chip manufacturer, potentially accelerating local AI development capabilities.

Regional Tech Hub Strategy Emerges

GITEX Nigeria’s dual-city format reflects Nigeria’s multi-hub tech strategy. Lagos hosts the main Tech Expo and Startup Festival at Eko Hotel Convention Centre, while Abuja handles the Government Leadership Summit at Landmark Centre.

This geographic split acknowledges Nigeria’s unique position where commercial tech activity concentrates in Lagos while policy decisions originate from the federal capital. The format allows both ecosystems to engage simultaneously with global tech leaders.

The timing also positions Nigeria strategically within GITEX’s global calendar. Following the main GITEX Global event in Dubai each October, Nigeria becomes the first major regional expansion, potentially influencing how other African countries approach large-scale tech events.

GITEX Nigeria’s success influences broader West African tech development. As the region’s largest economy, Nigeria’s tech ecosystem growth creates spillover effects across neighboring countries.
