Nigeria’s 3MTT Program Gets a N1 Billion Grant from Airtel Africa to Empower Over 25,000 Tech Talents

In a strategic move to bridge the digital disparity and accelerate Nigeria’s role in the global technology landscape, Airtel Africa Foundation has granted N1 billion to the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program. The cheque was presented to the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, by the Foundation’s Chairman, Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, on Wednesday, 26th of March, 2025.

Powering Nigeria’s Tech Future

The 3MTT program, a key component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s strategic talent-building initiatives, aims to train and equip three million Nigerians with viable digital skills. By focusing don’t the youths, this initiative not only boosts Nigeria’s digital workforce but also positions the country as a leader in the global tech ecosystem.

Today we received a N1 billion grant from Airtel Africa Foundation for our 3MTT Nigeria program,” Dr. Tijani said. “The grant will cover hands-on training, community engagement, and job placement initiatives, all aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

How the N1 Billion Grant Will Be Spent

The funds will be channeled towards training more than 25,000 Nigerians in various technical skills such as:

  • Digital Marketing and SEO
  • Cloud Platforms Navigation
  • Data Analysis and Visualization
  • UX/UI Design
  • Project Management Software
  • CRM Management
  • Graphics Design
  • Accounting Software

By concentrating on these areas, the program aims to create a talent pool equipped to handle the demands of a rapidly evolving digital world.

Airtel’s Commitment to Nigeria’s Growth

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ogunsanya expressed Airtel Africa’s dedication to Nigeria’s economic development.

Our N1 billion support is a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future workforce and prosperity. We believe in the power of technology to unlock new opportunities, drive economic growth, and uplift communities.

Previous Support and Future Goals

This grant marks the second major boost for the 3MTT program. In November 2023, IHS Towers committed N1 billion to build learning communities across Nigeria, including funding the salaries of 37 learning community managers for three years.

The 3MTT program started with 30,000 participants, just 1% of its ambitious three million target. The second cohort added another 270,000 participants, bringing the tally to 10%. As the program scales, the government collaborates with training providers, educational institutions, development agencies, and private-sector partners to realize its full potential.

Nigeria’s Path to a Digital Economy

By investing in the 3MTT program, the Federal Government aims to build a skilled workforce that can contribute to sectors like fintech, e-commerce, and telecommunications, further enhancing Nigeria’s reputation as a tech talent hub in Africa.

As Nigeria forges ahead in its digital transformation journey, the 3MTT program stands as a testament to the nation’s commitment to nurturing a digitally empowered generation.
