African Investors Meet in Dubai for “Champagne and Jollof” Yacht Event During GITEX

On the sidelines of GITEX 2024, African investors, entrepreneurs, and tech leaders gathered for the exclusive “Champagne and Jollof” yacht event, powered by Jason Njoku and Yango Group. Set against the stunning backdrop of Dubai Harbour, the event offered an intimate space for Africa’s brightest tech minds to network, exchange ideas, and celebrate the continent’s growing tech influence.

Networking and Strategic Insights

As the night unfolded, Jason Njoku, the co-founder of iROKO, took a moment to introduce himself, sharing the exciting news of his recent move to the UAE. Njoku spoke passionately about his vision to unite individuals with a shared positive view of Africa and its immense potential. He emphasized his ambition to bring together entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators who are committed to driving Africa’s growth forward, creating a collective that would strengthen the continent’s tech ecosystem globally.

Njoku’s introduction came later in the evening, allowing attendees to settle into the networking atmosphere. He provided a natural segue to the introduction of Adeniyi Adebayo, Yango’s Chief Business Officer and Head of Africa, whom Njoku described as one of the youngest and most dynamic leaders in the African tech space. Njoku’s endorsement of Adebayo highlighted the importance of fresh, innovative leadership in driving Africa’s tech agenda.

Yango’s Focus on Africa’s High-Growth Cities

Adebayo’s presentation was a key moment in the event, offering attendees a look into Yango’s strategy in Africa. Adebayo detailed Yango’s focus on cities with the highest growth potential, explaining how the company’s tech solutions are designed to address the specific needs of these urban centers. From mobility services to technology-driven urban development, Adebayo emphasized how Yango is committed to supporting Africa’s fast-growing cities by providing scalable, innovative solutions that enhance mobility and economic growth.

Adebayo’s insights underscored the company’s commitment to contributing meaningfully to Africa’s digital infrastructure. As Africa continues to experience rapid urbanization, Yango is positioning itself as a key player in delivering mobility services that foster connectivity, access, and economic inclusion.

Champagne, Jollof, and Cultural Celebration

The “Champagne and Jollof” event was more than just a networking opportunity; it was a celebration of African culture and innovation. Attendees enjoyed champagne alongside servings of Jollof rice, an iconic dish that is synonymous with African celebrations. The laid-back, culturally rich atmosphere allowed for a unique blend of business discussions and personal connections, with the sounds of Afrobeats and Amapiano creating a vibrant backdrop for the night.

Conversations were as dynamic as the event itself, with entrepreneurs and investors sharing their experiences, challenges, and hopes for the future of Africa’s tech landscape. The yacht’s luxurious setting and the relaxed environment made it easy for participants to forge meaningful relationships that could lead to future collaborations across borders.

GITEX 2024: A Platform for African Tech

The Champagne and Jollof event took place during GITEX 2024, one of the world’s largest tech exhibitions, where African tech innovation was in the spotlight. Events like this demonstrate Africa’s growing influence on the global tech stage, with African startups continuing to attract significant investment and attention from around the world.

As African tech ecosystems continue to flourish, events like Champagne and Jollof remind us that Africa’s role in the global tech space is expanding. By creating spaces for leaders, innovators, and investors to come together, these gatherings not only celebrate the progress made but also lay the groundwork for future growth and partnerships.
