PBR Life Sciences Secures $1M to Scale AI-Driven Healthcare in Africa

PBR Life Sciences, a healthtech startup focused on anonymized healthcare data, has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding to expand its operations across Africa. The funds will enhance its AI-powered platforms, designed to improve healthcare data accessibility and outcomes on the continent.

Support from Investors

Notable investors led the pre-seed round, including Launch Africa, Microtraction, Kaleo Ventures, Octerra Capital, and ARM Labs. They believe in PBR Life Sciences’ ability to transform healthcare through big data and AI.

With this funding, the company plans to strengthen operations and expand into key markets like Ghana and Kenya. Its goal is to provide vital data insights that will improve healthcare infrastructure across Africa.

CEO’s Vision for Africa

Ayodeji Alaran, CEO of PBR Life Sciences, emphasized the importance of funding in supporting both profitability and expansion. He expressed that the capital would allow the company to broaden its impact while maintaining a strong focus on achieving sustainable growth across Africa.

From Nigeria to Africa: PBR’s Journey

Founded in 2015, PBR Life Sciences initially focused on addressing Nigeria’s healthcare data gaps. Alaran, a pharmacist with an MBA and experience at GSK, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca, used his expertise to tackle the challenge of inaccessible healthcare data.

In 2021, the company expanded its focus to offer big data solutions across Sub-Saharan Africa, marking a pivotal step toward becoming a leader in healthcare data.

PBR’s Flagship Platform: “Versus”

PBR Life Sciences’ flagship platform, “Versus,” collects data from retail pharmacies, providing pharmaceutical companies with insights on product performance, market trends, and competitor activity. The platform uses AI and machine learning to help healthcare organizations enhance care delivery, resource management, and decision-making.

PBR leverages large volumes of healthcare data to help pharmaceutical companies enhance their products and services, leading to better healthcare outcomes for patients. The platform also plays a role in promoting inclusivity by ensuring that underrepresented patient groups are included in clinical trials.

Growth and Recognition

PBR Life Sciences gained significant recognition after joining the Techstars Lagos accelerator program. The program offered $120,000 in funding and provided valuable networking opportunities, further solidifying PBR’s position in the healthtech space.

Through this accelerator, PBR Life Sciences expanded its reach and gained a reputation as one of the leading healthcare data companies in Africa. The company now processes millions of data points from across the continent, helping address critical healthcare challenges with data-driven solutions.

Investor Confidence and Future Growth

Investors are confident in PBR’s ability to transform healthcare data accessibility. Launch Africa praised PBR for its strong leadership and strategic approach to tackling healthcare issues across Africa.

Octerra Capital also expressed its belief in PBR’s mission, highlighting the company’s potential to reshape how healthcare data is accessed and utilized across the continent. They have pledged continued support for PBR Life Sciences’ growth and vision.

PBR Life Sciences’ Impact on African Healthcare

As healthcare systems in Africa continue to evolve, PBR Life Sciences is uniquely positioned to drive innovation and improve healthcare outcomes across the continent. With AI-backed solutions and a focus on inclusivity, PBR Life Sciences is playing a significant role in the future of healthcare in Africa.
