The demand for innovative delivery solutions is high in Africa, with the logistics industry alone worth $1.34 billion. In Nigeria, several challenges hinder effective package delivery, from delays and high costs to limited secure options.

Ozi’s Community-Driven Delivery Model

Ozi, a community-driven delivery app, has launched today to solve these problems. It connects people who are travelling with those in need of package delivery, turning everyday trips into profitable opportunities. This innovative approach aims to disrupt the global parcel delivery industry, known as the Courier, Express, and Parcel (CEP) market, valued at $460 billion.

Turning Unused Travel Space Into Cash

Imagine you’re travelling from Lagos to Abuja and have unused space in your car. With Ozi, that space can now earn you extra cash by delivering packages along your journey. Or, perhaps you’re a small business owner hesitant to use expensive courier services. With Ozi, you can find a verified traveller who can deliver your package for you at a lower cost.

Mr. Ikenna Ani, Ozi’s co-founder and CEO, said during the startup launch at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos: “Why travel empty when you can earn?” Ozi’s concept uses the daily movements of travelers to create a fast, affordable, and efficient logistics network.

Why Nigeria Was Chosen as the Launch Location

Nigeria was chosen as the first launch location because of its potential in the parcel delivery sector. “Actually, we had the opportunity to launch OZI in another country outside Nigeria but for our thrust in the Nigerian dream and its potentials made us choose the country as the first to witness Ozi’s innovation,” said Ikenna Ani.

Ozi offers a win-win solution. Travelers can now make money by delivering packages, while senders can use a reliable and affordable alternative to traditional courier services.

A Mission Beyond Simplified Deliveries

Co-founder and CTO Engr. Christian Chime emphasized that Ozi’s mission goes beyond simplifying deliveries.

“Ozi’s mission goes beyond simplifying package delivery. The app represents a broader effort to create shared value for all stakeholders in the logistics process. By connecting senders and travelers, Ozi creates a win-win scenario where costs are reduced, trust is built, and income opportunities are created.”

Building Trust and Security

Trust and security are paramount. Ozi ensures all users undergo a thorough verification process, including ID checks and phone number authentication. This verification ensures that both senders and travelers can rely on the platform.

To further enhance security, Ozi provides real-time tracking for deliveries, so senders can monitor their packages throughout the process. For valuable items, optional insurance coverage adds an extra layer of protection.

“At Ozi, we understand that trust is critical in logistics,” Engr. Chime added. “That’s why we’ve built a platform where every step is designed to safeguard both the traveler and the sender.”

The Ozi app will be available on Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store starting January 1, 2025. Stay connected with Ozi on Instagram and Facebook for updates.
