Nigeria’s film industry titans have created a dedicated streaming platform set to transform how global audiences experience Nollywood, and african content generally.
Two of Nigeria’s biggest entertainment companies have launched Kava, a streaming platform exclusively dedicated to Nollywood and African content. Inkblot Studios and Filmhouse Group announced their partnership to create this platform, scheduled to debut in August 2025.
The platform will launch with over 30 premium Nollywood titles from Nigerian creators and the African diaspora. These include exclusive post-theatrical releases and top Nigerian films and series across all genres, with new content added weekly.
“Our vision with Kava is to redefine opportunity in Nollywood,” said Kene Okwuosa, Kava co-CEO and Filmhouse Group chief. “By giving both rising and established talent a trusted, lucrative stage to tell their stories, we’re building a platform that doesn’t just stream films, it fuels careers, drives innovation and connects African creativity to audiences around the world.”
Chinaza Onuzo, Kava co-CEO and Inkblot head, explained the vision: “Kava is more than a streaming service. It’s a bold new chapter for Nollywood, designed to meet the growing demand for premium, authentic African content and to redefine how the world experiences our stories.”

Kava’s initial lineup features comedy-drama “Alakada Bad and Boujee,” “Owambe Thieves” starring Zubby Michael, Odunlade Adekola and Solo Sobowale, “What About Us” with Kuni Remie and Uzor Arukwe, and “House Job” featuring Erica Nlewedim.
The founders have also expressed plans to produce exclusive original content for subscribers in the future.
This launch comes at a time where Netflix and Amazon Prime have reduced their original African commissions, despite growing demand for African content, particularly among diaspora audiences.
Nollywood currently stands as the world’s second-largest film industry by volume, behind only Bollywood. Despite this impressive output, African stories have remained underrepresented on global platforms.
“Kava will be the ultimate platform for nurturing and elevating the next generation of Nollywood talent, We’re creating a legitimate space where emerging and established filmmakers, actors and creators can showcase their work, thrive on a fair and transparent platform, and gain the global recognition they deserve.” Onuzo added.
The streaming service will be available when it launches in August. To sign up, go to kava.tv.
