AFDEIC 2025: Tech Leaders to Discuss AI’s Role in Africa’s $180B Digital Economy

From August 12 to 14, Abuja will host key players in Africa’s digital ecosystem at the African Digital Economy & Inclusivity Conference (AFDEIC 2025). The event will bring together policymakers, founders, innovators, and investors to discuss how artificial intelligence can drive inclusive growth across the continent.

Focus: AI and Inclusive Digital Growth in Africa

Themed “AI and Africa’s Digital Economy: Leaving No One Behind,” the conference will focus on critical issues like financial inclusion, broadband expansion, digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity. The discussions come as Africa’s digital economy is projected to hit $180 billion in GDP contribution by 2025, with forecasts pushing that number to $712 billion by 2050.

Organisers say the event will offer more than just panel talks. Attendees can expect workshops, exhibitions, and investor forums designed to spark partnerships and tackle real challenges in Africa’s digital space.

Digital Access Remains Uneven

Despite Africa’s fast-growing fintech and AI sectors, a large portion of the continent remains disconnected. A 2022 report from the International Telecommunications Union revealed that 73% of rural Africans lack internet access. In Nigeria, the GSMA’s 2024 study showed that 61% of rural areas still have no mobile internet coverage.

Adedayo Oketola, the AFDEIC organising committee lead, said, “This disparity hinders the equitable distribution of opportunities associated with the digital economy and draws attention to the urgency for targeted interventions.”

Oketola described AFDEIC 2025 as “a defining moment” for the continent, where stakeholders can collaborate on AI, fintech, and digital infrastructure strategies. “The goal is to develop actionable solutions, not just talk,” he said.

Cybersecurity, Data, and Digital Identity in Focus

Cybersecurity will also be a major focus. With growing risks of data breaches, fraud, and attacks, the event will host sessions on AI ethics, digital identity, blockchain, and data protection. Oketola noted that building resilience will require legal frameworks, skilled professionals, and strong awareness at every level.

Participation Opportunities for Founders, Experts, and Sponsors

AFDEIC 2025 will include an open call for papers, inviting academics, professionals, and digital leaders to submit work aligned with the event’s core theme. Sessions will cover AI and big data in economic development, digital identity systems for cross-border trade, and gender and youth inclusion in Africa’s digital workforce.

In addition to keynotes and panels, the event will feature:

  • A technology exhibition showcasing African startups, research breakthroughs, and global tech firms
  • Workshops and networking forums connecting founders with investors, policymakers, and ecosystem partners
  • Sponsorship and brand exposure opportunities for companies looking to lead conversations around innovation in Africa

A Platform to Shape Africa’s Digital Future

Adetoun Tade, AFDEIC’s marketing lead, said Africa’s digital future is being shaped now. “AI, mobile payments, and blockchain are already transforming sectors like healthcare, banking, and education,” she said. “AFDEIC is where you learn what’s coming next and how to be ready.”
