Meta Expands Features With New  AI-Powered Video Editing Tool

Meta Expands Features With New  AI-Powered Video Editing Tool

Meta just launched a new AI video editing tool that lets people change how their videos look with simple commands. The tool works through three different apps: the Meta AI app, the Meta AI website, and Meta’s new video editing app called Edits. Users can upload a video and pick from over 50 different editing options to transform their clips.

How the Tool Works

The new feature is designed to be easy for anyone to use. You don’t need to know how to edit videos to make good-looking content. Here’s how it works:

  • Upload a video that’s up to 10 seconds long
  • Choose from more than 50 preset editing options
  • Wait a few minutes for the AI to process your video
  • Share the edited video on Facebook, Instagram, or other platforms

The editing options can do many different things. You can change your outfit in the video, swap the background location, or adjust the lighting. The tool can make your video look like a comic book, add sparkly effects, or make it look like a video game scene.

Meta’s official announcement shows examples of people transforming ordinary videos into stylized content that looks professional.

Free but Not Forever

Right now, the video editing feature is free to use. But Meta says this is only “for a limited time.” The company hasn’t said when it will start charging for the service or how much it might cost later.

Users can edit videos directly in the apps and then share them right away to Facebook and Instagram. This makes it quick to create content and post it without switching between different apps.

Behind the Technology

The new editing tool uses Meta’s Movie Gen AI models. These are the same models that can create entirely new videos from text descriptions. But for now, Meta is only releasing the editing features, not the video generation part.

Meta has been working on AI video technology since 2022. The company first created models called Make-A-Scene that could generate images, audio, and videos. Then they built better models called Llama Image that could make higher quality content. All of this research led to Movie Gen, which combines all these abilities.

Meta is competing with other companies like Google that have been adding AI video tools to their apps. There are also other AI editing platforms like Captions that offer similar features.

Competition with TikTok and Others

Meta’s new tool puts the company in direct competition with TikTok’s popular CapCut editing app. CapCut has been the go-to choice for many creators who make short videos for social media.

Meta’s Edits app was specifically designed to compete with CapCut. The company launched Edits earlier this year as a free alternative that works closely with Instagram and Facebook.

The timing of this AI feature launch is important. Many countries have concerns about TikTok and CapCut because they’re owned by Chinese company ByteDance. Meta’s tools give creators an alternative that’s made by an American company.

More Features Coming Later

Meta says this is just the beginning. Later this year, users will be able to type their own custom editing instructions instead of picking from preset options. This means you could tell the AI exactly what you want your video to look like using your own words.

The company worked with content creators to decide which preset options to include. They wanted to make sure the editing choices would appeal to different types of audiences and help creators make engaging content.

Available Now in Multiple Countries

The AI video editing feature is available in the United States and more than a dozen other countries. The list includes Nigeria and Ghana in Africa, making it one of the first major AI video tools available in these markets.

To use the feature, people can download:

  • The Meta AI app (available on iPhone and Android)
  • Visit the Meta.AI website on any computer or phone
  • Download the Edits app (also available on iPhone and Android)

Meta hasn’t published a complete list of all the countries where the feature is available. But the company says it’s rolling out globally and plans to expand to more regions.

This launch shows how AI tools are becoming more accessible to regular users, not just tech experts. By making video editing simple and automatic, Meta is trying to get more people to create and share videos on its platforms.

The company hopes this will help it compete better with TikTok and YouTube, which have been gaining users who want to make short, entertaining videos. With AI doing the hard work of editing, more people might start making content for Instagram Reels and Facebook videos.
