LG’s Mosquito-Repelling Air Conditioner Now Available in Nigeria

LG Electronics has launched a unique air conditioner in Nigeria that does more than cool the air. The “Mosquito Away” AC uses advanced technology to drive mosquitoes away, providing a new defense against malaria.

This air conditioner uses “ultrasonic wave technology” to send out sound frequencies that humans cannot hear, but mosquitoes find disruptive. This helps keep mosquitoes out of your home, reducing the risk of malaria transmission.

The new AC has been tested by the Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training (IAMRAT) at the University College Hospital in Ibadan. The results show that it repels 92% of mosquitoes and has an 88% success rate in knocking down mosquitoes indoors.

After successful launches in other West African countries, LG is now introducing the AC across Nigeria through FUOANI, the exclusive distributor of LG and Hisense products in Nigeria. FUOANI brings over 20 years of experience in the Nigerian market.

This launch is significant for Nigeria, a country with a high malaria burden. About 76% of Nigerians live in areas prone to malaria, which is responsible for 27% of global malaria cases. In 2019, Nigeria also had the highest number of malaria-related deaths worldwide, according to the 2020 World Malaria Report.

“The ‘Mosquito Away’ AC is a first for Nigeria. This technology offers greater comfort and better safety for families, addressing an urgent need in the fight against malaria,” said Olugbenga Ogunbayo, a master trainer at LG Electronics.

Besides its mosquito-repelling feature, the ACs come with a dual inverter compressor. This technology cuts energy use by up to 70% compared to traditional models. Additionally, the AC features “volt care” to ensure reliable operation, even when Nigeria’s power grid faces fluctuations.
